Lean Maintenance describes the goal-oriented translation of the Lean thought. It translates activities performed at direct company departments (production) to indirect company departments, in this case the maintenance department. The well proven Lean methods, especially for the area of Lean Production, find their consistent application also in the area of maintenance with regards to its company specific requirements and framework.

The Lean Maintenance System works to optimize maintenance in a way that it supports fully the processes and structure of the production system in the most efficient way. Starting with a value-stream oriented equipment prioritization, followed by a defect categorization based on the previous, suitable strategies and concepts for the maintenance department are introduced.

The goal of zero maintenance related down-time is a priority besides focusing on the consistent avoidance of waste, the increase of process stability and quality.
